Jenner & Block

International Arbitration

We use best-in-class legal analysis, skillful advocacy and decades of international and domestic experience to obtain successful outcomes for our clients in arbitrations worldwide.  Chambers USA has said of our practice, “Market sources admire this terrific disputes team: ‘It quickly identifies the weakness in the other party’s case and goes after it to win.’”   In 2015, the practice was ranked as a “Tier 1” practice, nationally, by U.S. News-Best Lawyers, in its annual ranking of more than 9,600 law firms across the country.

Our lawyers have handled a wide range of international arbitrations in the United States and across the globe.  In the past three years they have participated in matters involving Austria, Bahrain, Brazil, Canada, China, Djibouti, Jamaica, Hong Kong, Israel, Jordan, Germany, Greece, Japan, Norway, Singapore, Switzerland, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and elsewhere.
Our arbitration lawyers effectively adapt the advocacy and witness examination skills developed in Jenner & Block’s renowned litigation practice to the style and culture of international arbitration.  The co-chairs of the group were described by Chambers USA as “an exceptional team,” combining “deep understanding of the various arbitration authorities and the international bar” with “extraordinarily gifted advoca[cy].”
We have deep experience representing clients across a broad range of industries and issues including financial services, pharmaceuticals, hospitality, aerospace and defense, securities, government contracts, insurance and reinsurance, intellectual property, and sales and distribution of goods.  Our attorneys have experience with arbitrations administered by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), American Arbitration Association/International Center for Dispute Resolution (AAA/ICDR), London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), and Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC).  We have also participated in ad hoc arbitrations conducted under the UNCITRAL Rules as well as domestic arbitrations before all of the major U.S. institutional providers (e.g., AAA, JAMS, CPR).
A critical asset of the Jenner & Block Arbitration Practice is its extensive knowledge of the international arbitration bar, which allows our lawyers to advise clients on the selection of appropriate arbitrators globally.  Attorneys in our group regularly serve as arbitrators themselves for various organizations including the ICC, ICDR, AAA, CPR and FINRA.  Our firm is a member of the United States Council for International Business (USCIB), the U.S. national committee of the ICC.  Our lawyers hold leadership positions with the USCIB, CPR and the International Bar Association.
Our full range of service associated with international and domestic arbitration includes counseling on the selection of contractual dispute resolution mechanisms, drafting of thoughtful arbitration and other types of dispute-resolution clauses, and handling court proceedings addressing agreements to arbitrate and the enforcement of arbitration awards.
