Susan A. O’Brien is an associate in the firm’s Litigation Department and the Patent Litigation and Counseling Practice.  Ms. O’Brien’s practice focuses on patent litigation.

Ms. O’Brien received her BS in biology in 2006 from the University of Miami, followed by an MS in chemistry and biochemistry from the University of California, Santa Cruz. She received her JD in 2016 from the University of Chicago. During law school, Ms. O’Brien participated in the Institute for Justice Clinic on Entrepreneurship, and the LAF Housing Clinic.

Prior to joining Jenner & Block, Ms. O’Brien did graduate work in bio-organic chemistry. Her graduate thesis investigated the effect of backbone N-methylation on the cell permeability of small cyclic peptides, a technique that could be used to increase the bio-availability of pharmaceuticals. She also worked as a contracts manager at Genentech and Tobira Therapeutics, a “virtual” biotech startup, where she handled a variety of research and development related contracts.
