Sebastian Canon Urrutia is an international dispute resolution lawyer in the firm’s International Arbitration group. He focuses his practice on international disputes, specially representing corporate entities as well as States and State-owned entities in international commercial arbitrations and investor-State arbitrations before tribunals established under the auspices of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the United Nations Commission for International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), among others. Mr. Canon Urrutia also has experience in representing clients in complex contractual domestic and international claims.
Mr. Canon Urrutia studied law at Universidad de la República (Uruguay) and received his LL.M degree and Certificate in International Arbitration and Dispute Resolution with honors from Georgetown University Law Center in 2018.
Prior to joining Jenner & Block, Mr. Canon Urrutia was the head of the litigation department at a Uruguayan law firm. In that role, he focused on complex civil and commercial litigation as well as alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. Also, Mr. Canon Urrutia interned at the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID). Mr. Canon Urrutia is a native Spanish speaker and has working knowledge of Portuguese.
