Mr. Dalling is a member of the firm’s Investigations, Compliance and Defense Practice and the National Security, Sanctions, and Export Controls Practice. Formerly a trial advocate with 10 years’ courtroom experience, he has represented global financial institutions, multinational corporates and individuals in high-profile and high-value internal and external investigations involving a wide range of financial crime and other regulatory issues. Market commentators for Chambers and Partners 2020 describe him as an “excellent” lawyer who is “incredibly clever and very tactical.”
Mr. Dalling has substantial experience advising both individuals and corporates on issues including bribery and corruption, money laundering, fraud, benchmark manipulation (including LIBOR and FX), and trade and financial sanctions. He has regularly advised on whether or not an entity or individual should self-report to the authorities and on the issues that may arise from such decisions. As a result of the international nature of his caseload, he has acquired experience of a wide range of regulatory agencies operating within the UK (including the SFO, FCA and PRA), the European Union, the United States, Asia and elsewhere.
In addition to his investigations practice, Mr. Dalling has advised some of the world’s largest financial institutions on financial sanctions, often in connection with complex and sophisticated financial products and transactions. He has experience applying for licenses from sanctions authorities in the UK. He advises companies on the development of internal policies (including on anti-bribery, anti-fraud, anti-money laundering and terrorist financing, conflicts of interest, gifts and hospitality, and supply chain/modern slavery issues) and associated procedures, controls and training. He has assisted several clients with complex anti-money laundering issues and has dealt with the National Crime Agency on a large number of consent applications.
He has advised many companies on business integrity and reputational risks associated with a wide range of issues, including corporate transactions and entry into new markets. He has extensive experience of specialist due diligence work, and has worked closely with a number of the leading corporate intelligence firms.
Prior to moving into private practice in 2014, Mr. Dalling spent several years practising as a barrister in white collar criminal litigation.
