Rafi W. Mottahedeh is an associate in the Tax Department. Mr. Mottahedeh focuses on a broad range of federal, state and international tax planning and tax controversy matters.
Mr. Mottahedeh received his J.D. from the Northwestern University School of Law where he served as a Senior Editor of the Journal of International Law and Business. Mr. Mottahedeh was the Morris M. Geifman Memorial Scholar and the Wilf Tax Scholar in his LL.M. program at New York University School of Law.
Prior to joining Jenner & Block, Mr. Mottahedeh worked at one of the best-known tax boutiques in the United States. While there, he handled a wide variety of domestic and international tax matters, including structured finance transactions, the licensing and sale of intellectual property, and complex loss deductions. In addition, Mr. Mottahedeh has worked extensively representing taxpayers before the I.R.S. in both criminal and civil investigations.
Before studying at Northwestern, Mr. Mottahedeh was in a graduate program at the University of Chicago where he focused on law and finance in the Middle East & North Africa. Mr. Mottahedeh is fluent in French and has excellent Modern Standard Arabic skills.
