Michael Doornweerd is a Co-Chair of the firm's Complex Commercial Litigation practice. He focuses his practice on the defense and aerospace industry, with an emphasis on aviation disputes. Mr. Doornweerd has litigated to verdict or final award approximately 20 trials and arbitrations in the aviation industry, including breach of contract, business torts, trade secret and antitrust matters. He has led the successful resolution of dozens of other matters without the need for a trial. In addition to his broad range of experience handling trial, pre-trial and post-trial proceedings in state and federal courts, he has extensive experience in domestic and international alternative resolution forums. Mr. Doornweerd is a member of the Complex Commercial Litigation, International Arbitration and Aviation and Aerospace practices.
Mr. Doornweerd has an active pro bono practice and has successfully represented clients at the federal appellate and trial level. He has been recognized by the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois with an Award for Excellence in Pro Bono Service, and has served on the American Arbitration Association's Large and Complex Case Committee.
