Mark A. Harris is chair of the firm’s Private Equity Practice and a member of the firm's Management Committee.  He advises on mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, securities, start-up and general corporate matters, with special emphasis on private equity portfolio companies and sponsor groups.

Mr. Harris is well known for his work in the healthcare industry.  He represented Merge Healthcare in its acquisitions of AMICAS and Ophthalmic Imaging Systems and its $1B sale to IBM and handled private equity transactions for Navicure, CoverMy Meds and QGenda. His work has ranged from advising large healthcare companies, such as Health Care Service Corporation, Munich Re and DaVita, to small and start-up businesses in the industry.

Mr. Harris handles transactions in many other sectors, including software/technology, consumer products, manufacturing/distribution and financial services.  He frequently represents private equity sponsors, such as Winona Capital and Merrick Ventures, as well as entrepreneurs and management teams in transactions opposite leading private equity funds, including with Bain Capital, Vista Equity, JMI Equity, Francisco Partners and Madison Dearborn Partners.

Mr. Harris’ legal acumen and experience in the corporate/M&A and private equity areas have been recognized by leading legal directories such as Chambers USA, Legal 500, and PLC Which Lawyer?  He has also been selected as a “Leading Lawyer” by members of the Leading Lawyers Network, and his Merge/IBM transaction was named as the “deal of the year” by two legal publications. 

Outside of private practice, Mr. Harris was the COO and a Principal, Portfolio Manager of GTCR Golder Rauner, LLC, a leading Chicago private equity firm.  Mr. Harris has also been a senior executive and chief legal officer of two venture-backed companies, Click Commerce, Inc. and PrairieComm, Inc. and has served as an independent director of two public companies.
