Maria C. Liu is an associate in the firm’s Litigation Department. She represents clients in complex, high-stakes litigation.
Ms. Liu has broad litigation experience in courts at both the state and federal levels and in all phases of complex commercial litigation. Ms. Liu has represented clients in litigation concerning post-employment restrictive covenants, trade secret misappropriation, business torts, breach of contract, ERISA, insurance coverage disputes, and other complex civil litigation. Ms. Liu’s practice also focuses on regulatory investigations.
Ms. Liu maintains an active pro bono practice, which included a § 1983 case involving excessive force and medical difference. Ms. Liu also currently serves on the firm’s Associate Board of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee.
Ms. Liu graduated cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School, where she served as a student attorney with the Pediatric Advocacy Clinic and provided legal assistance to parents on domestic violence, family law, public benefits, and special education issues. While in law school, Ms. Liu also served as the Managing Online Content Editor for the Michigan Journal of International Law, the Awards Chair for the law school's Pro Bono Board, and a Senior Judge for the law school’s first-year Legal Practice Program. Prior to attending law school, Ms. Liu obtained her B.A. in Public Policy from the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan, where she graduated with distinction and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
Ms. Liu is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and the state of Illinois.
