Kara K. Trowell is an associate in the firm’s Litigation Department. She is a member of the Investigations, Compliance and Defense Practice as well as the Data Privacy and Cyber Security Practice. Ms. Trowell has a variety of experience in complex commercial litigation matters.
In her practice, Ms. Trowell represents corporations and individuals in connection with government and internal investigations in a variety of subject-matter areas, and counsels corporate clients on compliance issues. She has participated in investigations on behalf of domestic and multi-national corporate clients, including the monitorship of a major financial institution following its settlement with the New York State Department of Financial Services and federal regulators in connection with tax evasion and securities law violations. She has also advised clients on compliance with state, federal and foreign regulations in areas such as privacy, information governance, income taxation and campaign finance. Ms. Trowell has also litigated complex civil matters in both state and federal court, ranging from actions involving copyright infringement and trade secret misappropriation to administrative agency challenges.
Ms. Trowell maintains an active pro bono practice. In addition to representing refugees seeking asylum in the United States before the Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals, Ms. Trowell has represented clients in federal and state courts and has partnered with nonprofit organizations to research and develop public policy initiatives.
Ms. Trowell received her B.A. in global studies in 2011 from UCLA, where she graduated from the College Honors Program. She received her J.D. in 2015 from the New York University School of Law and also studied abroad in the Faculty of Law at the University of Copenhagen. Prior to joining Jenner & Block, Ms. Trowell worked at a family practice as a Non-Attorney Representative, representing clients in their claims for federal disability benefits.
