David D. Heckman is an associate in the firm’s Corporate Department. Mr. Heckman represents public and privately held companies in connection with domestic and cross-border mergers, acquisitions, spin-offs and stock and asset purchases. Mr. Heckman also represents emerging companies and investors in early stage and venture capital investments.
Mr. Heckman represents a number of emerging companies, providing counsel on financing transactions, corporate governance and a variety of other general corporate matters. Mr. Heckman has experience with venture capital investments in industries including technology, energy and agriculture.
Mr. Heckman maintains an active pro bono practice, providing governance and contracting counsel to multiple not for profit organizations.
Mr. Heckman is a member of the Veterans and Military Families Affinity Group and sits on the firm’s Associates Committee, advising firm management on issues including firm policies, technology, recruiting, diversity and inclusion.
Mr. Heckman received his BA, summa cum laude, in political science from George Washington University in 2008, and his JD from Harvard Law School in 2017. During law school, Mr. Heckman worked with teams advising first-time entrepreneurs on corporate structuring and intellectual property matters.
Prior to law school, Mr. Heckman served as a captain in the US Army and deployed twice to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. During his five-year military career, Mr. Heckman served in roles including logistics, operations and intelligence.
Mr. Heckman is admitted to practice in the state of Illinois.
