Brij B. Patnaik is a litigator who focuses on complex civil disputes and government investigations. He has represented clients in major contract disputes, shareholder derivative claims, securities litigation, legal malpractice claims, business torts, and other matters. Mr. Patnaik is fluent in Spanish and has helped conduct internal investigations for multinational companies with operations in Latin America.
Mr. Patnaik spends significant time on pro bono matters. He has defended clients in criminal cases, tried a case under the Federal Tort Claims Act arising from an infectious disease outbreak in a federal prison, and represented a client in state post-conviction and federal habeas corpus proceedings challenging flawed arson science.
Mr. Patnaik received his B.A. in Spanish from Grinnell College and his J.D. with distinction from the University of Iowa College of Law in 2009. He is a member of the Young Professionals Board of the Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago and the Chicago Council of Lawyers. He volunteers with the Ladder-Up Foundation providing free tax assistance to people with low incomes.
