Ben Alter is an associate in the firm’s Litigation Department.

Mr. Alter received his JD from Yale Law School, where he was a member of the Rule of Law Clinic and the Appellate Litigation Project. Prior to joining Jenner & Block, Mr. Alter was a law clerk for Judge Pierre Leval on the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and Judge Ronnie Abrams on the US District Court for the Southern District of New York. Mr. Alter was also an Arthur Liman Fellow at the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), where he represented the association and its members in civil rights litigation relating to the decennial Census and redistricting.

Before attending law school, Mr. Alter worked as an editor at Foreign Affairs magazine and at the US Treasury Department as Special Adviser to the Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence. In that capacity, he advised senior government officials on their public engagements relating to economic sanctions, anti-money laundering, and combating the financing of terrorism.
