AnnaMarie A. Van Hoesen is a litigator who focuses on entertainment, intellectual property, and professional responsibility matters. She has robust experience representing companies and law firms in complex, high-stakes disputes in both state and federal courts, as well as arbitration.
Ms. Van Hoesen is a member of the firm’s Professional Responsibility Practice. She represents national and international law firms in a variety of contexts, including malpractice actions, disqualification motions, and internal investigations. Her recent representations include defeating a motion to disqualify a large, international law firm in a dispute involving copyright infringement and defamation claims, and defending against professional liability claims relating to celebrity licensing and endorsement deals.
Ms. Van Hoesen is also a member of the firm’s Content, Media, and Entertainment Practice and has experience with a wide array of disputes, including cases involving copyright and trademark infringement, misappropriation of trade secrets, profit participation, idea submission, film finance, and media torts. Ms. Van Hoesen also represents clients in complex commercial cases, such as breach of contract claims, business torts, and corporate governance disputes.
In 2019, Ms. Van Hoesen served as the second-chair on a trial team that won a defense verdict in a $250 million breach of partnership case, following a two-week jury trial in California state court.
In 2016, Ms. Van Hoesen was a member of a trial team that secured a $940 million jury verdict on behalf of a medical software company in one of the largest trade secret verdicts in United States history. She was also part of a litigation team that obtained a $130 million settlement in a trade secret action involving online real estate portals.
Ms. Van Hoesen is a member of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers, Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles, and Asian Pacific American Bar Association. She serves on Jenner & Block’s Hiring Committee and is a member of the firm’s Women’s Forum and Asian Forum. Ms. Van Hoesen was recognized as a Southern California Super Lawyers “Rising Star” in 2017, 2018, and 2019.
Ms. Van Hoesen maintains an active pro bono practice, and is passionate about representing survivors of domestic violence. She currently serves on the New Leadership Council for Family Violence Appellate Project, a California-based nonprofit organization dedicated to the pro bono representation of domestic violence survivors in civil appeals. She also serves on the Leadership Advisory Board of Vista Del Mar, a nonprofit organization that provides social, educational, and behavioral health services to children and families in Southern California.
