In an essay published by the New York Times, Jenner & Block Partner Lee S. Wolosky calls for the Biden Administration to take decisive action to close the detention facility at GuantánamoBay, including specifically by overriding a “US transfer ban” of dubious constitutionality.

Titled “Biden Has a Chance to Remedy One of Obama’s Biggest Regrets,” the essay suggests that the facility has caused enormous reputational and financial strain to the US, and argues that foreign terrorism is no longer the country’s biggest threat. “The United States is finally leaving Afghanistan,” Amb.Wolosky writes. “We should also finally close Guantánamo.”

Amb. Wolosky served as special envoy for Guantánamo Closure under President Barack Obama and on the National Security Council under Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush.
