Connolly highlight the recent spate of “deepfake” videos – videos that have been digitally doctored to appear highly realistic.  Drawing on examples of such videos that have gone viral, the authors discuss the serious potential legal issues they raise, including defamation, right of publicity violations and invasion of privacy.  “As we continue to wonder about how to solve the deepfake problem, one thing is almost certainly true: deepfakes will only become more prevalent and more threatening,” they observe.
