Saunders explain that the General Data Protection Regulation, or GDPR, imposes strict data protection requirements on companies that monitor or offer goods and services to consumers in the European Union, no matter where the companies are located.  While the pace of investigating enforcement claims under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) has “slowed to a trickle” under the Trump administration, entities that are covered by HIPAA “need to pay attention to GDPR,” the authors observe.
