“How a Feminist Made ‘Big Law’ Work for Her,” Penn Law Journal

In this article, Jenner & Block Associate Alison I. Stein examines strategies for working parents attempting to balance their home life and their career in a law firm.  The article explains that, back in college and law school, Ms. Stein researched and published articles on why many young women “opt out” of law firm jobs and the track to partnership.  And yet, seven years out of law school, Ms. Stein has a husband and two children under three and continues to work as an intellectual property litigator in the firm’s New York office. “I have learned that, with the right firm, the right mix of co-workers, the right attitude, and the right strategies, ‘Big Law’ can actually be a workable environment to balance work and a family,” she writes.  Ms. Stein is a 2009 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
