“The Disconnect between Underwriting and Claims Handling Revisited,” Carrier Management

In this second installment of a two-part series, Jenner & Block Partner Matthew L. Jacobs continues to examine the disconnect between underwriting and claims handling.  In the first article, he explained that policyholders expect that all of the information provided to the underwriter at the time of placement will be considered, analyzed and given weight by the claims department –  but that rarely happens.  In this installment, he describes the comments exchanged by a panel of insurance executives at a 2013 Advisen conference addressing why the disconnect may exist, including a concern over “enterprise risk management.”
