“Will the Judicial Redress Act Address Europeans’ Privacy Concerns?” IAPP Daily Dashboard

In this article, Jenner & Block Partners Mary Ellen Callahan and Nancy C. Libin and Associate Lindsay Bowen examine the Judicial Redress Act, signed into law in February 2016.  The new law extends to non-U.S. citizens and non-legal permanent residents the ability to sue the federal government under the Privacy Act of 1974 for unlawful disclosure of their personal information, as well as the right to access and correct government records about themselves.  The authors explore the European Union’s reaction to the legislation.
