“Big Deals Increasingly Mean Big Data,” Daily Journal

In this article, Jenner & Block Partners Mary Ellen Callahan and Nancy C. Libin and Associate Sabrina N. Guenther examine the privacy risks that companies face in the course of major transactions.  Big data is often a keystone in corporate mergers and acquisitions, the authors explain, because personal data is increasingly identified as major corporate assets and intellectual property.  Companies on both sides of a transaction, they observe, “must understand – and predict – what promises, legal limits and risks apply to the large data sets at issue in the deal.”  The article is the latest installment of Ms. Callahan’s regular Privacy and Information Governance (PIG) Tales column in the Los Angeles and San Francisco Daily Journal.
