In this article, Jenner & Block Partners Carrie F. Apfel and Mary Ellen Callahan and Associate Michael T. Borgia examine the recent security flaw known as “Heartbleed.”  The authors explain that Heartbleed exposed a vulnerability in OpenSSL, a popular encryption software program.  They explore the potential harm that Heartbleed can cause to companies and offer strategies that companies can use to protect their customers, employees and themselves from future attacks.  In particular, they advise that “companies need to keep their security protections robust, diverse, and up-to-date.”
