Recent laws passed in Illinois will impact Illinois employers.  Under the Illinois Firearms Concealed Carry Act, individuals who obtain a license will be permitted to carry concealed weapons in Illinois workplaces unless the property owners elect to prohibit concealed weapons on their premises by posting appropriate signs.  Under the Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Pilot Program Act, qualifying patients with certain medical conditions will have access to medical marijuana, and employers may not penalize employees for registering as qualifying patients.  Jenner & Block Partner Carla Rozycki and Of Counsel Emma Sullivan summarize these laws and encourage Illinois employers to review their workplace policies for compliance with this new legislation.
