In this installment of the “Content Matters” column, published in the Los Angeles and San Francisco Daily Journal, Jenner & Block Partners Mary Ellen Callahan and Andrew J. “A.J.” Thomas examine the significant changes to the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) that go into effect on July 1. The revisions expand the categories of companies that must consider COPPA and broaden the compliance risks that all online companies face. “Online businesses should be aware of the evolving standards for protecting children’s information on the Internet, particularly where they involve categories of information companies are likely to gather in the future,” the authors observe.
