WASHINGTON, DC, July 12, 2022: Christopher J. Abbott, a former attorney in the Mergers IV Division of the Federal Trade Commission’s Bureau of Competition, has joined Jenner & Block as a partner in the Washington, DC, office. His arrival increases the depth and breadth of the firm’s merger clearance, strategic counseling, compliance, and litigation capabilities.

Over the course of his career, Mr. Abbott has defended clients and led joint defense groups in substantial antitrust class actions. Recently, he represented a prominent defendant and led portions of the litigation on behalf of all defendants in one of the largest industry-wide price-fixing cases ever filed. Mr. Abbott also represents clients in civil and criminal conduct investigations.
“Chris is a skilled litigator and has excelled in the antitrust space since our time working together at the FTC,” said Mr. Litvack. “That government experience, paired will his skillset as a deal lawyer is a key asset for the practice in all economic cycles.”
In addition to his litigation practice, Mr. Abbott advises clients at all stages of the deal-making process, from early-stage antitrust risk assessments to substantive advocacy for agency clearance of highly complex transactions. He has played a leading role in numerous notable transactions, including representing an online pet retailer in securing antitrust clearance for its $3.35 billion acquisition by the largest specialty pet retailer in the United States. The acquisition was the largest ever of an e-commerce business at the time.

In addition to his private practice, Mr. Abbott maintains an active pro bono practice. He recently secured two significant victories in cases involving Afghan interpreters and their families. Both clients and their families were able to obtain Special Immigrant Visas and are now residing in the United States.

Mr. Abbott joins the firm from Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP. He graduated summa cum laude from Suffolk University Law School, where he was editor-in-chief of the Suffolk Transnational Law Review and a member of the Foreign Direct Investment Moot team. He received his BA from American University.
