CHICAGO, September 2, 2015 – Jenner & Block is pleased to announce that Charlie Lightfoot, a UK-based lawyer with extensive experience handling notable international arbitrations and high-stakes commercial litigation, is joining the firm as a partner.  Mr. Lightfoot will lead the firm’s growing London-based litigation and arbitration practices.

“Bringing a high-caliber UK-based talent like Charlie into our new London office is a major step forward in the strategic buildup of our cross-border litigation and international arbitration practices,” said Terrence J. Truax, the firm’s managing partner.  “Charlie is an outstanding lawyer, a gifted natural leader and the right choice to lead our disputes practice in London.  We are thrilled to have him with us.”

Before joining Jenner & Block London, Mr. Lightfoot practiced for 16 years at White & Case LLP.  Most recently, he was a partner focusing on complex cross-border disputes in a variety of sectors, including financial services, defense, energy and telecommunications.  He has appeared as advocate both in the English High Court and in many international arbitrations.

An English-qualified solicitor advocate, he was identified as a “rising star” by The Legal 500 UK in 2011 and has received its recommendation each year since.  In that time, Charlie has been described as “pleasant and brilliant,” “calm under pressure” and as displaying “impressive advocacy skills.”  He is a law graduate of Keble College, Oxford.

“Charlie’s experience in international arbitration complements our existing practice and provides a dynamic London-based resource for our clients,” said Chicago Partner Lawrence S. Schaner, co-chair of the firm’s International Arbitration Practice along with New York Partner Richard F. Ziegler.  Mr. Ziegler added, “We are delighted to have attracted a candidate as excellent as Charlie to head up and further develop our international arbitration practice from London.”

Mr. Lightfoot said:  “Leading the disputes practice for a firm like Jenner & Block in its new London office is a wonderful opportunity.  The firm’s outstanding reputation for excellence in litigation and arbitration, as well as its commitment to pro bono and public service, are extremely attractive to me, and I am very excited to be joining them.”

Mr. Lightfoot joins a team of litigators and investigators that has steadily grown since the office opened in April 2015.  In addition to Mr. Lightfoot, the office has a disputes team that includes several UK-qualified solicitors: Partner Christian Tuddenham; Special Counsel Kelly Hagedorn; and Associates Victoria C. Fitzpatrick and Tracey Lattimer.  Those four came to the firm from Dechert LLP in London earlier this year.  Another solicitor, Partner Timothy J. Chorvat, is a dual-qualified lawyer.

Mr. Tuddenham brings a wealth of experience representing companies and individuals in Europe, Asia and the Middle East.  He focuses his practice on complex commercial disputes, with particular experience in the banking and financial services sector.  Much of Mr. Tuddenham’s caseload involves multi-jurisdictional mandates, and he has extensive experience advising clients regarding disputes in emerging markets such as Russia/Commonwealth of Independent States, India, Pakistan and the Persian Gulf, including handling disputes involving Islamic finance and Shari’a law.

Before joining Jenner & Block, Mr. Tuddenham worked in the Dispute Resolution Department at Dechert and served in similar roles at Norton Rose and Lovells.  He is a past recipient of the Liberty/Law Society Gazette Peter Duffy Award for Young Human Rights Lawyer of the Year for securing a formal change to the British government’s foreign policy to allow the Foreign Secretary formally to support British nationals in cases of miscarriage of justice overseas.  Mr. Tuddenham earned his law degree from the University of Nottingham.

Mr. Chorvat, a dual-qualified lawyer who is a solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales, has been instrumental in the growth and integration of the London office from the outset, having relocated from the firm’s Chicago office.  He focuses his practice on complex financial disputes, including securities, class action and bankruptcy-related litigation as well as arbitration proceedings.  He is active in the American Bar Association and Illinois State Bar Association and was most recently named an Illinois Super Lawyer in Business Litigation in 2014 and 2015.  He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School.

Ms. Hagedorn focuses her practice on white collar crime, bribery and corruption and international disputes involving fraud allegations.  Clients across a broad range of sectors, including oil and gas, telecommunications and financial services, seek her counsel in regulatory investigations and other matters.  She graduated with a law degree from Hertford College, Oxford University.

Ms. Fitzpatrick’s experience includes advising clients, particularly those in the financial services and business sectors, on contractual disputes, bankruptcy and insolvency proceedings and other general commercial litigation matters.  She earned her degree in philosophy, politics and economics from the University of York.

Ms. Lattimer has a broad range of experience dealing with UK and international matters, including contractual disputes, defamation matters, disputes in the energy sector, trademark litigation, regulatory investigations, securities litigation and general commercial litigation matters.  She graduated with a history degree from St. Hilda’s College, Oxford University.

As part of Jenner & Block’s strategic emphasis on expanding its international white collar and investigative practice, Partner Peter B. Pope has relocated from the firm’s New York office to London.  Mr. Pope is co-chair of the firm’s global White Collar Defense and Investigations Practice.  He has conducted internal investigations around the world – leading Jenner & Block teams in Europe, China, Latin America and Africa in matters involving export control, customs issues and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.  He represents corporations and individuals in federal and state prosecutions and investigations and often appears in court.  Mr. Pope is a former New York prosecutor and past chief of the Criminal Division of the New York State Attorney General’s Office.  He earned his law degree from Yale Law School.

Also in the London white collar practice is Partner Nancy C. Jacobson.  Ms. Jacobson has extensive experience in internal investigations and corporate compliance.  She has worked on global compliance reviews involving the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, as well as investigations of potential fraud, money laundering and theft of intellectual property.  Ms. Jacobson has been an Illinois Super Lawyer “Rising Star” in Criminal Defense: White Collar (2014, 2015) and in Professional Responsibility: Defense (2012, 2013).  She earned her law degree from the University of Chicago.
