Firm Resolves Patent and Business Dispute for SPX

Our trial team obtained a tremendous victory for our client SPX Corporation, when an arbitrator ordered that Snap-on Inc. pay SPX $44 million, resolving a patent and business dispute that had lasted over ten years. Last summer, Jenner & Block joined the case and late in the fall each side exchanged its last final offer, with Snap-on demanding payment of $3 million from SPX, and SPX demanding payment of $44 million from Snap-on.  On December 27, the arbitrator issued Awards, finding in favor of SPX and against Snap-on, and ordering Snap-on to pay SPX $44 million.  The team was led by Partners John F. Ward Jr. and Eric A. Sacks under the direction of Ross B. Bricker, and was assisted by Partner Andrew A. Jacobson, and by Associates Amy C. Crawford, Daniel S. Dooley, Daniel I. Konieczny, Stephen Safranski, and Katharine R. Saunders.
