Jenner & Block

Firm’s Pro Bono Program Cited as Leader in Federal Appeals Court

Jenner & Block was again described by the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin as a long-time leader among the city’s biggest law firms that have volunteered to take on cases pro bono before the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.  In the front-page article, “Once a burden, appointment now a much-sought plum,” the circuit executive for the appeals court, Collins T. Fitzpatrick, is quoted as saying, “Jenner & Block has traditionally provided a lot of attorneys in court appointments as long as I’ve been here, 30 years.” The article notes that the Firm won the 7th Circuit Bar Association’s pro bono service award in 1992 and 1996, and that Jenner & Block Partner Barry Levenstam won the Federal Bar Association's Walter J. Cummings Award for excellence in advocacy on the part of court-appointed counsel in the 7th Circuit for 1994. According to Mr. Levenstam, the Firm has continued its traditional commitment to the 7th Circuit’s pro bono needs by accepting a total of 20 appointments from its judges in the last three years alone.
