Terri L. Mascherin is to receive this year's “Outstanding Legal Service Award” issued annually by the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty.

Each year, the Washington, D.C.-based coalition hosts a national conference and honors one or two attorneys who have particularly “made a difference” to its cause.

In addition to being a member of Jenner & Block’s Telecommunications, Litigation, Antitrust, Bankruptcy and IP Practice Groups, Ms. Mascherin has a robust pro bono practice, which has included successfully challenging death sentences imposed on two men on Illinois’ death row. She is a panel member of the Capital Litigation Division of the Office of the Illinois Appellate Defender. And she is a certified member of the Illinois Capital Litigation Trial Bar, qualified to act as lead counsel in capital cases. Ms. Mascherin is a past member of the Board of the Chicago Lawyer’s Committee for Civil Rights. And she currently serves as a Member of the Board of Managers of the Chicago Bar Association, as a Member of the Northwestern Law School Board, and as Chair of the Northwestern Law School Fund.

Ms. Mascherin will be honored at the coalition’s annual awards dinner, which will take place October 26 in Chicago. This event is one of the highlights of the death penalty coalition’s national conference that is taking place from October 24-27.
