Firm Helps Close Midland National’s $283 million Purchase of Sun Life Subsidiaries

On Jan. 7, Midland National Life Insurance Company acquired for $283 million Clarica-US and Clarica Life Insurance Company-US from their parent company, Sun Life, Canada’s largest insurer. In representing Midland National through prolonged negotiations that began in May 2002, a team of Jenner & Block attorneys showed extraordinary “skill and tenacity in assisting Midland National in acquiring these companies at a reasonable price and on favorable terms,” said Partner John B. Simon.

Partner Carter Klein and Mr. Simon led the Midland National legal team that drew from numerous Practice Groups, including those focusing upon M & A, Corporate, Commercial Finance, Employee Benefits, Insurance, and Tax matters.
