Jenner & Block’s Corporate Practice was recently ranked among the top 20 law firms by Global Securities Information, Inc. in its “2003 Legal Counsel Rankings,” which listed the top law firm corporate practices in terms of total transaction value of merger and acquisition deals last year.
According to the published report, the Firm was ranked number 18 in the country based on more than $9 billion of reported transactions. The closely-watched rankings, based on deals registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission with completion dates in 2003, reflect the growth of the Firm’s M&A and Securities practices.
Earlier in the year, there were signs that the Corporate Practice at Jenner & Block was headed for a banner year. A June issue of The American Lawyer magazine, for instance, noted the work of Corporate Practice Chair Robert S. Osborne in leading the Firm’s team on behalf of General Motors in a complex multibillion dollar transaction involving GM’s Hughes Electronics (DirecTV) subsidiary and News Corporation. Calling Mr. Osborne a “star transactional lawyer,” the magazine suggested that the DirecTV deal was a harbinger of more big deals for the practice in the coming years.
According to Mr. Osborne, the Firm’s Corporate Practice is well positioned for continued growth. “We built a great foundation in 2003 with significant transactions for several major companies,” he said. “We also continued our strategic hiring with new partners like William L. Tolbert, formally a senior member of the SEC staff. It’s an exciting time to be a corporate attorney at Jenner & Block.”
