Jenner & Block Partner Lawrence S. Schaner has been named Vice-Chair of the Arbitration Committee of the International Bar Association (IBA), effective January 1, 2012.  Mr. Schaner’s selection was announced during the IBA’s Annual Conference in Dubai in October/November.  He is presently concluding his term as Secretary of the Committee and previously served as the Committee’s Publications Officer, Newsletter Editor and Website Officer.

The Arbitration Committee has approximately 2,700 members in more than 90 jurisdictions throughout the world.  The Committee, which is part of the IBA’s Dispute Resolution Section, focuses on laws, practice and procedures relating to the arbitration of transnational disputes.  Through its publications and conferences, the committee seeks to share information about international arbitration and promote its use and improve its effectiveness. 

Mr. Schaner is a partner in the Firm's Litigation Department.  He is Co-Chair of the International Arbitration Practice and a member of the Complex Commercial Litigation Practice.  Consistently ranked as one of the leading arbitration lawyers in the United States, Mr. Schaner has been termed “tremendously knowledgeable” and “one of Chicago’s finest international arbitration experts” by Chambers USA.  In addition to his participation in the IBA, he is also a member of the ICC Commission on Arbitration, a Councilor of the North American Users’ Council of the LCIA, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and a member of the CPR Arbitration Committee.  He publishes and speaks regularly on arbitration and cross border litigation topics.
