Jenner & Block Partner Carla J. Rozycki led a silent auction and benefit for the Suburban Area Agency on Aging (SAAA) on May 5 which was attended by more than 200 people.  Proceeds from the event benefited family caregivers of older adults.

“This event makes possible additional care for Cook County’s elderly family members,” said Ms. Rozycki, who serves as President of the board of the organization.

The SAAA estimates that there are approximately 43,000 unpaid caregivers assisting elderly family members, friends, and neighbors in suburban Cook County.  However, due to its limited budget, the SAAA, which will soon be changing its name as part of a strategic realignment to “Age Options,” was able to provide respite care for only 676 of these caregivers.

The silent auction included gifts large and small, including Chicago White Sox skybox tickets, a Bahamas vacation, handmade jewelry and gift certificates to local salons.  Proceeds from the event will be directed to helping family caregivers with respite services, which allow family caregivers the opportunity to take the time he or she needs to take care of personal business, knowing that his or her loved one is safe and well cared for.

The event’s featured guest was Jim Karas, fitness expert and author of The New York Times # 1 best seller, “The Business Plan for the Body.”
