The Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) recently held their 25th Silver Anniversary Chicago Awards Gala, commemorating the organization’s many years of safeguarding the civil rights of Latinos living in the United States.
The Gala honored Assir DaSilva, former Vice President for Diversity at Exelon Corporation, Edward Grossman, Executive Director of The Chicago Legal Clinic, and Arthur Velasquez, President of Azteca Foods, for their contributions to empowering of the Latino community in Chicago.
Jenner & Block Chairman Jerold S. Solovy served as the Legal Co-Chair of the event, for which he was given a special lithograph of a painting created by a renowned Mexican artist.
Former Illinois Supreme Court Chief Justice Benjamin K. Miller, of counsel to Jenner & Block, accepted the gift on behalf of Mr. Solovy, who could not attend as he was on trial in Florida.
"We will display this lithograph in our offices as a symbol of our relationship with MALDEF and as a sign of our continuing commitment to the organization's goals and activities on behalf of the Latino community," said Justice Miller. "We have been pleased to work closely with MALDEF toward the success of its programs in the past, and look forward to continuing that relationship in the future."
