A team of Jenner & Block attorneys, staff, and family members raised over $12,000 for Asthma research, education and charity programs by participating in the American Lung Association of Metropolitan Chicago’s (now known as the Respiratory Health Association of Metropolitan Chicago) 5th annual “Blow the Whistle on Asthma” Walk on September 17 along Chicago’s lakefront.
Partner Barry Levenstam, board member of the ALAMC, served as captain of the “Jenner-ous Asthma Block-ers,” the Firm’s team which participated with hundreds of individuals from city-wide companies. “It’s always great to see so many people out to support this important cause,” said Mr. Levenstam who became involved in the fight against the disease when his young daughter was diagnosed with Asthma several years ago. “Events like this are critical to improving the health and well-being of those who suffer from asthma,” he said.
"The funds we raise this year will help our asthma education programs in the schools and support our summer camp programs for children with asthma. While our doctors continue to work on research that will lead to tomorrow's cures, we need to make sure asthma patients today keep their asthma under control,"said Joel Africk, CEO of the American Lung Association of Metropolitan Chicago and a former Jenner & Block Partner.
According to the ALAMC, the cost of keeping asthma under control in the U.S. has grown to $14 billion annually. Asthma, a chronic disease that causes sudden inflammation of the airways within a person’s lungs, can be life-threatening if not properly managed.
