Firm Joins Asthma Walk to Raise Funds for the American Lung Association of Metropolitan Chicago

Jenner & Block helped the American Lung Association of Metropolitan Chicago (ALAMC) raise funds to battle asthma and other lung diseases as part of the 6th Annual “Blow the Whistle on Asthma” Walk on October 1, 2006.  Partner Barry Levenstam captained the Jenner & Bock team, the JENNER-ous Asthma BLOCK-ers, which raised more than $10,000 in recent weeks for asthma research and education programs.

Asthma is a chronic disease that causes sudden inflammation of the airways within a person’s lungs and can be life-threatening if not properly managed.  According to the ALAMC, an estimated 20 million Americans currently have asthma, and 11 million of them had experienced an asthma attack in the previous year.  In the Chicago area, more than 300,000 adults and 120,000 children have been diagnosed with asthma.  Asthma is the leading cause of school absenteeism due to a chronic illness among children in Chicago.

“Asthma is a scourge in Cook County,” said Mr. Levenstam, “and I am proud of how the firm’s lawyers and staff have supported the fight to control it.  The firm donors are too numerous to list, but we thank them for their generosity,” stated Mr. Levenstam, who serves on the ALAMC Board of Directors.

In addition to Mr. Levenstam, walking with the Jenner & Block Team were: Legal Secretary Christine M. Titone; Pro Bono Coordinator Caroline Padmanabhan; Legal Secretary Coordinator Caryn Jo Geisler and her sister Donna Gomez;  Mr. Levenstam’s daughter, Sarah Levenstam, and her friends Alex Yant, Jennifer Marchuk, and Lindsay Camp; and Mr. Levenstam’s friends Betsy Hammond, and Tom and Maddy Nissen.
