On December 28, 2009, New York City Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum issued a Proclamation celebrating Jenner & Block’s “extraordinary effort and contribution to society” and its “consistent delivery of outstanding legal service, public service and pro bono advocacy.” The Proclamation noted that “in 2005 they opened an office in New York City where the tradition of providing the highest caliber of legal counsel continued by helping the Public Advocate for NYC with a major landlord/tenant issue,” referring to the Firm’s work on behalf of tenant community organizations in the pending case of BRUSH v Pinnacle.
The Proclamation also recognized that Jenner & Block was ranked the number one law firm in the country for pro bono service by the American Lawyer magazine for the last two years and has received the Pro Bono Institute’s John H. Pickering Award and the prestigious Pro Bono Publico Award from the American Bar Association.
On February 18, 2010, Ms. Gotbaum formally presented the Proclamation to Partner Richard F. Levy, who accepted it on behalf of the Firm at our New York offices.
The New York City Public Advocate is a city-wide elected official who acts essentially as an ombudsperson, serves as Speaker of the City Council and would succeed the Mayor in the event of that person’s death or incapacity.
