Best Lawyers has named Jenner & Block Of Counsel Chester T. Kamin the “Chicago Litigation-Antitrust Lawyer of the Year,” Partner Daniel R. Murray the “Chicago Equipment Finance Law Lawyer of the Year,” and Partner Paul M. Smith the “Washington D.C. Litigation-First Amendment Lawyer of the Year” for 2012.

Best Lawyers is the oldest peer-review publication in the legal profession.  In 2011, in addition to their standard annual list, Best Lawyers began designating “Lawyers of the Year” in high-profile legal practice areas in large legal communities.  Only a single lawyer in each practice area in each community is selected for this honor.  According to Best Lawyers, these attorneys are chosen on the basis of the “particularly high ratings” they received in the publication’s most recent peer-review surveys of leading lawyers, “by earning a high level of respect among their peers for their abilities, professionalism, and integrity.”

Mr. Kamin is the former Chair of the Firm’s Litigation Department and is a member of the Complex Commercial Litigation, Antitrust Litigation and Health Care Litigation Practices.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and, in addition to his private practice, he is an adjunct professor at the University of Chicago Law School, where he teaches an advanced seminar on telecommunications law.  He has been named to Best Lawyers in America in the practice areas of Bet-the-Company Litigation, Commercial Litigation, Litigation-Antitrust and Litigation-Regulatory Enforcement (SEC, Telecom, Energy) since 2007.

Mr. Murray is Chair of the Firm’s Bankruptcy, Workout and Corporate Reorganization Practice and Chair of the Commercial Law and Uniform Commercial Code Practice and a member of the Bankruptcy Litigation Practice and the Real Estate Finance Litigation and Workout Task Force.  He is an elected member of the American College of Commercial Finance Lawyers, the American College of Bankruptcy and the American Law Institute.  Mr. Murray serves as an adjunct member of the faculty at the University of Notre Dame Law School where he teaches an advanced course on corporate restructuring.  He has been listed in Best Lawyers for Bankruptcy and Creditor-Debtor Rights Law and Litigation-Bankruptcy since 1995 and for Equipment Finance Law since 2007.

Mr. Smith is Chair of Jenner & Block’s Appellate and Supreme Court Practice and Co-Chair of the Media and First Amendment and Election Law and Redistricting Practices, as well as a member of the Creative Content Practice.  His active appellate practice has included presenting 14 oral arguments before the United States Supreme Court.  In 2010, the National Law Journal named Mr. Smith one of the “Decade’s Most Influential Lawyers” and, the same year, he received the Thurgood Marshall Award from the American Bar Association.  He has been named to Best Lawyers for Appellate Practice and Litigation-First Amendment since 2005.
