Jenner & Block Partners Thaddeus J. Malik and Patrick J. Trostle discussed strategies for success in today’s deal market at the Second Annual West Legalworks Midwestern M&A Forum in Chicago.

The forum, held on April 17, brought together over 100 leading players in the deal community—including investment bankers, business development leaders, inside and outside counsel, private equity groups, venture capitalists, accountants and consultants—to discuss how to successfully identify, structure, and finance M&A transactions.

Mr. Malik, who served as co-chair of the Forum, moderated a "Corporate Deal-makers' Roundtable" in which leading financial and strategic buyers discussed what they seek and avoid as they source new deals.

At a session titled, "Distressed M&A:  Restructuring Today's Deals Tomorrow," moderated by Mr. Trostle, panelists discussed the valuing of distressed companies; dealing with competing interests of various stakeholders; assessing alternative acquisition methods; and financing a business to get a sale.

Mr. Malik, a partner in the Firm's Chicago office, is a member of the Firm’s Corporate Practice and Co-Chair of its Mergers & Acquisitions Practice.  He has a wide-ranging practice with a focus on M&A, securities and venture capital financings, as well as general corporate and securities counseling.

Mr. Trostle, a partner in the Firm's New York Office, is a member of the Firm’s Bankruptcy, Workout and Corporate Reorganization Practice where he concentrates on representing institutional parties in complex chapter 11 reorganizations and international insolvency cases.
