In an interview with the Turnaround Management Association’s Chicago/Midwest Chapter, Jenner & Block Partner Melissa M. Root discussed how the pandemic has shaped the past year. She recalled leaving the office in March of 2020, not knowing that she would be working remotely for more than a year. She pointed to industries that have been stressed by the pandemic, including hospitality and transportation, but noted that individual bankruptcies were actually low last year due to government support programs. She discussed the opportunities that platforms like Zoom provide for networking. She praised her “unstoppable” Partner Angela Allen for her excellent leadership of the TMA during the crisis. And, asked about hobbies she has picked up during the pandemic, Ms. Root joked that she might be the last person to learn how to bake sourdough bread. Rather, her family has made an effort to exercise and get outside as much as possible.
