Jenner & Block Partner Andrew Weissmann is featured in a roundtable published in the November 2020 edition of Financier Worldwide magazine, on the topic of conducting remote investigations during the COVID-19 pandemic. Mr. Weissmann discusses the pros and cons of conducting a virtual interview between investigators and interviewees and how the pandemic has forced investigators to find new ways to analyze and discuss information. He notes that the use of artificial intelligence by prosecutors and agents is becoming more common. He says, “These capabilities are even more important when on the ground investigative procedures cannot easily be performed, you do not have the in-person intelligence you are accustomed to, and you are reliant on the data.” The participants also discuss the long term effect COVID-19 will have on investigative processes. “While we often hear that it is business as usual, the reality is that regulators have had to adjust their investigative protocols too,” Mr. Weissmann explains.
