In an interview with The National Law Journal, Mr. Barofsky discussed the president’s recent move to remove a Washington lawyer as the Pentagon’s acting inspector general and instead replace him with the Environmental Protection Agency’s inspector general.  Mr. Barofsky called the moves “extraordinarily disturbing.”  “These actions send a clear message to inspectors general that they’re going to be in danger if they criticize the administration,” he observed.  “That is not how it’s supposed to work, and the country will suffer if you don’t have independent watchdogs who will report on waste, fraud and abuse when they see it. It undermines the entire system we’ve set up.”
