The National Law Journal featured Partner Emily M. Loeb in an article profiling Washington, DC’s next generation of crisis management lawyers or “DC fixers.”
Ms. Loeb, co-chair of the firm’s Government Controversies and Public Policy Litigation Practice, is noted among the lawyers described in the article as “a new generation of younger, more diverse, more digitally adept attorneys” who “are navigating in a new set of circumstances that have made crisis management a very hot practice.”
As Ms. Loeb explained in the article: “More and more, companies are realizing that even in industries that are not heavily regulated, they need to examine their potential risks. Damage can occur overnight.”
The article noted that Ms. Loeb’s substantial federal government experience—including her service as associate White House counsel—put her on the path to crisis management.
“Because of the way that crises unfold now, clients want someone who understands the social media and political landscape,” she added. “People are looking for holistic legal strategists.”
In addition to Ms. Loeb, Jenner & Block’s Government Controversies and Public Policy Litigation Practice brings together lawyers from across the firm who have significant senior-level government experience to provide rapid-response strategic counsel on complex, sensitive and multifaceted matters. Partner Thomas J. Perrelli, the former US Associate Attorney General, founded and co-chairs the practice with Ms. Loeb.
Critical situations often unfold in multiple arenas at once—the courts, government investigations, regulatory actions, congressional hearings and in traditional and social media—and can present existential crises for the entities involved.
Our lawyers are strategists who create risk management strategies and conduct internal investigations in order to anticipate and coordinate simultaneous responses to state and federal government, congressional, and media inquiries. Jenner & Block lawyers are often entrusted to handle massive negotiations involving multiple parties, and counsel C-suite, boards and other senior level executives on communicating to various audiences to navigate out of a crisis. We are experienced in bringing these multiple strands together to provide advice and advocacy that protects an entity’s legal position, reputation and bottom line.
