In its Privacy This Week newsletter, OneTrust Date Guidance quoted Partner David P. Saunders about modified proposed regulations under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). Earlier this month, the California Department of Justice provided notice of changes to CCPA regulations, which were originally published and available for comment in October 2019. The modified proposed regulations are in response to comments received regarding the regulations and to clarify and conform the proposed regulations to existing law.
"The entire CCPA process has been a lesson in how difficult a piecemeal approach to privacy can be for both consumers and businesses,” Mr. Saunders told the publication. “The original, proposed regulations would have caused significant turmoil for businesses and would have potentially harmed consumers, with the revisions now taking a positive step,” he added.
