Firm Files Major Brief for United Nations re: Mexican Border Asylum Ban Cases

On December 6, the firm filed a brief of amicus curiae, pro bono, for the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. The case involves a challenge to the new federal asylum policy that purports to ban access to asylum for anyone who crosses the southern border anywhere other than at a designated port of entry. The United Nations submitted a brief in support of several asylum seekers who have challenged the policy because, in the view of the High Commissioner for Refugees, the new policy is at odds with the United States' obligations under domestic and international law.

Led by Partner Patrick W. Pearsall, the firm team also includes Associates Karthik P. Reddy and Vaishalee V. Yeldandi.
