On Wednesday, December 15, 2010, Jenner & Block elected 12 associates to the partnership. They are Daniel E. Chudd, Lindsay C. Harrison, Carletta F. Higginson, Melissa M. Hinds, Kristopher R. Kiel, Luke C. Platzer, Katherine M. Rahill, Melissa A. Resslar, Jeffrey R. Shuman, Douglas A. Sondgeroth, Andrew W. Vail and Erinn L. Wehrman.

Daniel E. Chudd
Daniel E. Chudd is a Partner in the Litigation Department and Government Contracts and Defense & Aerospace Practices. Mr. Chudd obtained his J.D. magna cum laude and Order of the Coif from the Georgetown University Law Center in 2003, where he served as Executive Editor of the American Criminal Law Review and was co-author of an article in the Seventeenth Survey of White Collar Crime. Mr. Chudd served as a law clerk to the Honorable Mary Ellen Coster Williams of the U.S. Court of Federal Claims in 2006. He received his B.A from Georgetown University in 2000. Mr. Chudd was part of the Jenner & Block team that recently represented General Dynamics C4 Systems in securing a significant victory before the Armed Services Board of Contract Appeals.
Lindsay C. Harrison
Lindsay C. Harrison is a Partner in the Litigation Department and Appellate and Supreme Court Practice. Ms. Harrison obtained her J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School in 2003, where she served as Executive Articles Editor of the Harvard Civil Rights-Civil Liberties Law Review and was named Best Oralist in the Ames Moot Court Competition. She served as a law clerk to the Honorable Alan S. Gold of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida from 2003-2005 and to the Honorable Rosemary Barkett of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit in 2006. She received her B.A. summa cum laude and with Honors from the University of Southern California in 2000. In a widely publicized matter, Ms. Harrison recently argued and won a U.S. Supreme Court case on behalf of asylum-seeker Jean Marc Nken.
Carletta F. Higginson
Carletta F. Higginson is a Partner in the Litigation Department and a member of the Creative Content Practice. Ms. Higginson obtained her J.D. from Columbia University School of Law in 2003, where she served as Submissions Editor for the Columbia Journal of Gender and Law. She received her B.A. from New York University in 1999. Recently, Ms. Higginson was a member of the Jenner & Block team that represented UMG Recordings, Inc. in achieving a significant victory in a high-profile copyright dispute against the heirs of legendary singer Bob Marley.
Melissa M. Hinds
Melissa M. Hinds is a Partner in the Bankruptcy, Workout and Corporate Reorganization and Bankruptcy Litigation Practices. Ms. Hinds obtained her J.D. cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School in 2003, where she served as a member of the Michigan Journal of Law Reform and was a recipient of the Robert S. Feldman Labor Law Award. She received her B.A. magna cum laude from Bowling Green State University in 2000. Ms. Hinds served as the Chair of the Chicago Network of the International Women’s Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation in 2010 and is the Co-Chair of programming for the American Bar Association Section of Litigation’s Bankruptcy & Insolvency Litigation Committee. Recently, Ms. Hinds was a member of the Jenner & Block team representing LIP Holdings, LLC, an affiliate of Inland Real Estate Investment Trust, Inc., in the In re Lauth Investment Properties, LLC bankruptcy case. Ms. Hinds also represented several debtors that were transferred to LIP Holdings, LLC as a result of a settlement reached in the Lauth Investment Properties case.
Kristopher R. Kiel
Kristopher R. Kiel is a Partner in the Litigation Department and a member of the Intellectual Property Practice. Mr. Kiel obtained his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School in 2001. He received his B.S. in Industrial Engineering, cum laude, from Northwestern University in 1999. Mr. Kiel is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. During his career at Jenner & Block, Mr. Kiel has played important roles in patent litigation covering a wide variety of technologies ranging from pharmaceuticals and medical devices to semiconductor electronics and wireless technology. Currently, Mr. Kiel is a key member of the Jenner & Block team that represents American Power Conversion (APC) by Schneider Electric in patent infringement litigation relating to power distribution systems. In addition, Mr. Kiel also has an active pro bono criminal trial practice.
Luke C. Platzer
Luke C. Platzer is a Partner in the Litigation Department and Creative Content Practice. Mr. Platzer obtained his J.D. Order of the Coif from Stanford Law School in 2003, where he served as Assistant Articles Editor of the Stanford Law Review and was named the Nathan Abbott Scholar for graduating first in his class. He served as a law clerk for the Honorable Judith W. Rogers of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit from 2003 to 2004. Mr. Platzer received his A.B. magna cum laude from Harvard College in 2000. Mr. Platzer recently was part of the Firm’s team that represented a group of major recording companies in a cutting-edge copyright infringement lawsuit against a commercial USENET server operator. In a pro bono matter, Mr. Platzer also was part of a team that successfully challenged the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act in the landmark case Gill v. Office of Personnel Management.
Katherine M. Rahill
Katherine M. Rahill is a Partner in the Environmental, Energy and Natural Resources Law and Climate and Clean Technology Law Practices. Ms. Rahill obtained her J.D. cum laude and Order of the Coif from the University of Michigan Law School in 2002. She received her B.A. in Environmental Science summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Northwestern University in 1999. Ms. Rahill currently serves on the Illinois State Bar Association Environmental Law Section Council. Ms. Rahill was part of the Jenner & Block team that performed environmental due diligence and assessed environmental liabilities in General Motors Corporation’s high-profile Chapter 11 proceedings and subsequent Section 363 sale.
Melissa A. Resslar
Melissa A. Resslar is a Partner in the Corporate Department and a member of the Firm’s Mergers & Acquisitions and Private Equity/Investment Management Practices. Ms. Resslar obtained her J.D. magna cum laude from Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 2003, where she served as Judicial Conference Symposium Editor of the Loyola University Chicago Law Journal. Ms. Resslar received her B.S. with Honors from the University of Michigan in 1999. Ms. Resslar was part of the Jenner & Block team that recently represented General Motors in negotiating and securing a $5 billion revolving credit line in preparation for GM’s historic IPO. She was also a key associate on the team that represented GM in the Section 363 sale transaction in 2009.
Jeffrey R. Shuman
Jeffrey R. Shuman is a Partner in the Corporate Department and a member of the Firm’s Corporate, Securities, Mergers & Acquisitions and Private Equity/Investment Management Practices. Mr. Shuman obtained his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 2003. He received his B.A. summa cum laude with distinction and his B.S. with Highest Honors from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2000. Mr. Shuman was part of the Jenner & Block team that recently represented General Motors in its historic initial public offering -- the largest IPO in global history.
Douglas A. Sondgeroth
Douglas A. Sondgeroth is a Partner in the Litigation Department and Complex Commercial Litigation, ERISA Litigation, and International Arbitration Practices. Mr. Sondgeroth obtained his J.D. magna cum laude and Order of the Coif from Boston College Law School in 2002, where he was Executive Editor and Symposium Editor for the Boston College Law Review. He received his B.A. summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Augustana College in 1999. Recently, Mr. Sondgeroth has been a member of the Jenner & Block team that has successfully represented officers and directors of Tribune Company, Sam Zell and other defendants in an ERISA class action currently pending in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
Andrew W. Vail
Andrew W. Vail is a Partner in the Litigation Department and Complex Commercial Litigation Practice. Mr. Vail obtained his J.D. cum laude from the University of Illinois College of Law in 2003. Mr. Vail earned his B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1999. Mr. Vail was part of the Jenner & Block team representing Chairman Anton R. Valukas, the court-appointed Examiner in the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc., the largest bankruptcy in the history of the United States, and is part of the Jenner & Block team that represents Sam Zell and Equity Group Investments in the Tribune bankruptcy case. Mr. Vail currently serves as an appointed member of the Illinois Supreme Court Committee on Jury Instructions in Criminal Cases and the Illinois State Bar Association Standing Committee on Supreme Court Rules. He recently was awarded the Chicago Bar Association and Chicago Bar Foundation’s Exceptional Young Lawyer Award.
Erinn L. Wehrman
Erinn L. Wehrman is a Partner in the Litigation Department and a member of the Professional Responsibility Practice. Ms. Wehrman obtained her J.D. cum laude from Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 2003, where she served as Student Articles Editor of the Loyola University Chicago Law Journal and was an academic tutor in Torts and Legal Writing. Ms. Wehrman received her B.A. with High Honors from Michigan State University in 2000. Ms. Wehrman has represented many national law firms on a wide range of matters including malpractice.
