For a second year in a row, Managing Intellectual Property magazine has named Jenner & Block “Copyright Firm of the Year.”  The firm was also named “2011 Copyright Firm of the Year – Northeast Region” by the magazine, a leading global publication focusing on intellectual property and analysis.  Partners Steven B. Fabrizio, Michael B. DeSanctis and Susan J. Kohlmann accepted the honor at MIP’s 2011 North American Awards Ceremony held in Washington, DC on March 29.  Leading intellectual property practitioners in corporate legal departments and law firms from across the country attended the gala event at the Four Seasons Hotel in Georgetown.

Jenner & Block’s Creative Content group has remained at the forefront of copyright law with several high-profile cases involving copyright and content protection in both advanced and traditional media.  Earlier this year, the practice group filed suit in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida on behalf of Disney, Fox, Warner Bros., and NBCUniversal against Internet download hub Hotfile Corp., claiming massive infringement of copyrighted movies and television shows.  The practice also represents Viacom in its high-stakes lawsuit against YouTube and Google, presently on appeal in the 2d Circuit, which has generated widespread interest in both the mainstream and trade press.  In its traditional copyright and entertainment litigation, the group also has had an impressive string of victories in the last year for its music industry clients, including one involving the works of iconic performer Bob Marley.  Additionally, over the past two years, the practice group has achieved victories for its motion picture studio and record company clients in important Internet copyright cases, including against operators of infringing Usenet and BitTorrent services.

Partners Andrew H. Bart and Steven B. Fabrizio are co-chairs of the Creative Content practice that also includes Partners Michael B. DeSanctis, Steven R. Englund, Jared O. Freedman, David A. Handzo, Carletta F. Higginson, Susan J. Kohlmann, Luke C. Platzer, Duane C. Pozza, Gianni P. Servodidio, Paul M. Smith, and Andrew J. (A.J.) Thomas, along with Associates Farnaz M. Alemi, Eric R. Haren, Garrett A. Levin, Sarah A. Maguire and Joseph J. McFadden.
