On June 15, 2011, Jenner & Block was named to the 2011 Public Interest Law Initiative (PILI) Pro Bono Recognition Roster.  The award was presented for the Firm’s “noteworthy pro bono contributions” to the PILI Pro Bono Initiative.  This is the second year in a row that the Firm has been included in the Recognition Roster, which was created in 2010.

In a letter announcing the Firm’s recognition, PILI’s Executive Director Michael Bergmann and PILI Program Manager Sheila Simhan wrote, “Through the efforts of the attorneys, paralegals and legal staff at your firm, more low-income and under-represented individuals across Illinois have access to the justice they deserve.

Jenner & Block has been a longtime supporter of PILI, a Chicago nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve awareness of public interest law and the need for legal services for the poor.  Through its Pro Bono Initiative, PILI works collaboratively with Illinois law firms, corporations, public interest law agencies and law schools to create and promote work environments, programs and opportunities that help new associates and seasoned attorneys actualize their commitment to pro bono work.

The Firm’s inclusion on the Recognition Roster was based on its attorneys contributing more than 61,000 hours Firmwide to pro bono work in 2010, with 100% of associates and approximately 70% of partners devoting at least 20 hours to pro bono, with an overall Firmwide average of 147.78 hours per attorney.  It was also based on Jenner & Block’s commitment to pro bono as a Charter Member of the Chicago Bar Foundation’s Leadership Circle, embodying best practices for law firms on pro bono, firm giving and related issues involving access to justice.
