Law360 has recognized Jenner & Block in three categories for its annual “Practice Groups of the Year” series: Food & Beverage, Government Contracts, and Media & Entertainment.
Law360 notes that winners are “law firms that racked up victories in litigation and closed the big deals to make their mark among clients and throughout the legal industry.”
The publication featured the firm's food and beverage work on two billion-dollar-plus deals—US Foods’ IPO and the merger between Snyder’s-Lance and Diamond Foods—as well as a victory in a potential class action against Mondelez International over candy packaging. “I think what our food-and-beverage clients now see is we’re so grounded and experienced in the food-and-beverage space that we’ve become sort of a destination practice,” said Partner Dean N. Panos in the Law360 profile about the firm.
During a year of significant change within the Government Contracts Practice, the group’s demonstrated consistent excellence is reflected in its recognition as a Practice Group of the Year. Examples cited in the group’s profile include its precedent-setting victory for client SAIC in a bid protest over a $575 million contract and a win for defendant Honeywell International in a $300 million False Claims Act qui tam case. The practice was also key in representing other defense industry clients in high-stakes litigation and transactions throughout the past year. “Our clients really demand a strategic approach from outside counsel and they want us to be aligned with their business objectives and understand their business,” said Partner Gregory H. Petkoff in the profile. “And our ability to do that is one reason that we’ve been so successful.”
With several high-profile victories, including a resounding appellate win in a DMCA copyright case, and the addition of three renowned lateral partners in 2016, the firm's Content, Media & Entertainment group was recognized for its fourth consecutive year and for the fifth time since 2012. In the practice’s profile, practice Chair Andrew H. Bart noted that “there are firms that have two, three, or even four lawyers who are recognized players in the industry, and I think we have at least a dozen.” Clients the firm represented and earned victories for in 2016 included EMI, Getty Images, Jay-Z, IMG-WME, Universal Studios and Fox, among others.
