Jenner & Block has been named to Global Investigation Review’s 2016 guide to the top 100 firms from around the world that in-house counsel turn to “in times of crisis.” According to GIR, two factors elevated firms to the list: experience and trust. Two high-profile monitorships – Credit Suisse’s tax evasion settlement with the New York Department of Financial Services and Citigroup’s mortgage-backed securities settlement with the DOJ – have “distinguished” the firm in recent years, GIR says.
The guide names the four co-chairs of the White Collar Defense and Investigations Practice – Partners Anthony S. Barkow, Peter B. Pope, Reid J. Schar and Charles B. Sklarsky – and notes that many partners have government experience, particularly from stints in the US attorneys’ offices in Chicago and New York. The profile mentions that the firm was hired by General Motors to conduct an internal investigation leading up to certain recalls stemming from faulty ignition switches and has acted for individuals regarding the global investigations into Libor rate manipulation. “Throughout the decades,” the profile observes, “Jenner & Block’s white-collar work has run the gamut from US congressional investigations to securities fraud matters, FCPA cases and monitorships. Foreign bribery investigations are a specialty of the practice; Jenner has counselled companies on FCPA compliance in close to 50 countries.”
