Jenner & Block won a victory for client Marriott when a New York judge refused to block a proposed $14 billion merger between client Marriott International Inc. and Starwood Hotels & Resorts Inc. Providing more than 1.1 million rooms worldwide, the merger would join two of the largest hotel companies. Two hotel owners, Cityfront Hotel Associates LP and Dream Team Associates LLC, had claimed that the deal would violate exclusivity agreements protecting their properties from neighborhood competition. They sought a preliminary injunction. On June 1, 2016, New York Supreme Court Judge Shirley Werner Kornreich refused to grant it, saying that the two owners waited too long to bring the action. The team representing Marriott included Partners David A. Handzo, Lindsay C. Harrison and Michael W. Ross and Associates Previn Warren and William K. Dreher. News of the judge’s decision was reported in Law360.
